William E. “Bill” Rice 83, of Shelbyville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018 in Greensburg, Indiana.
He was born September 10, 1935 in Aurora, IN, son of the late Luther E. Rice Sr.and Mary Ellen Kramer Rice.
Bill served his country as a Sgt.in the United States Marine Corps.
He worked in maintenance for Knauf Fiberglass, retiring after over 35 years of service.
Bill was an Aurora High School graduate. He was a member of the American Legion Post 70, FOE #766, the Loyal Order of Moose #2118 and the FOP #84 all in Shelbyville, Indiana. Bill was also a member of the Friend of Gibault #822 (K of C), as well as a member of the AM Vets Post #07 in North Vernon, Indiana. Bill enjoyed genealogy, bowling, and playing cards, and was the Indiana State Gin Rummy Champion. He loved watching college basketball, the NBA, and he was a Cincinnati Reds Baseball fan. Bill was an animal lover, but he was especially fond of his cat Babe.
Surviving are children, Kenneth A (Brenda) Rice of Shelbyville, IN, Gregory G. Rice of Sheridan, IN, William H. Rice of FL., Herbert W. (Jenelle) Rice of Westfield, IN, Joy K Tromblee of Lakeland, FL, Kay L Hodge of Vero Beach, FL; fiancé, Barbara Harmon; sisters, Margaret E. “Peg” Lyttle of Smyrna, TN, Janet M Howze of Smyrna, TN; as well as 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Luther E. “Red” Rice.
Friends will be received Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora, Indiana.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in the River View Cemetery, Aurora, Indiana. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of local Veterans Service Organizations.
