Wildcats tourney win and win streak highlight Dec. 20-22 boys hoops recaps

The following are boys basketball recaps from December 2o-22.  There may be updates, so please check back.

Franklin County Holiday Tournament.

Franklin County won its own holiday tournament and set a program record with six consecutive victories.

The Wildcats beat Seton Catholic in round one 66-50 and then defeated Hamilton Heights 68-52 in the championship.

FC’s Chad Cox was named MVP and fellow Cats Bridger Bolos and Brant Ertel were also named to the all-tournament team.

Connersville was a 55-33 winner over Greenfield-Central. 

It was a landmark win for Spartan head coach Kerry Brown, No. 200 at Connersville. He’s in his 13th year with CHS and has 282 wins for his career spanning 21 season.

In the victory for the Spartans, Lucas Barron tallied 19 points and four rebounds.  Tobey Billups netted eight points and five assists.

Greensburg downed Columbus East 56-40.

The Pirates led 22-15 at the half.  The Bucs did their usual sharpshooting in their own gym hitting 63 percent from the floor.

Greensburg’s Colin Comer scored 21 points to lead all scorers, Dakota Walters followed with 14 and Brenden Stanley was a workhorse underneath. The senior collected 16 rebounds and scored eight points.

Batesville pounded the Patriots of Union County 63-34.

The Bulldogs outscored the boys from Liberty 41-13 in the second half.

BHS saw Sam Johnson record a game-high 21 points. Cody Mohr followed with 11 and Cade Kaiser had 10.

Lawrenceburg fell at Taylor of Ohio 52-46.

Dahya Patel’s 15 points were tops for the Tigers. Jackson Bobo added nine points.

Jefferson County Invitational.

In round one from Wednesday, Southwestern beat Silver Creek 69-57 after trailing by two at the half.

The Rebels got 19 points and 13 rebounds from Zach Cole.  Jamison Lewis scored 16 and had four assists.  Colton Cloud also had 16 points and Mitch Mingione logged 14.

The Rebels then took on Jay County, coached by their former head coach Jerry Bomholt.

Southweestern led by four after the third quarter, but the Patriots rallied in the fourth quarter to win 53-45.

For the Hanover boys, Cole carded 13 points, Mingione and Lewis both posted 11 and Peyton Gwin added 10.  Parker Davis never scored but secured 10 rebounds in the loss.

And in a first round match, Switzerland County fell to Indy Tech 81-31.  Cam Craig scored 11 for the Pacers.

In games played Thursday, Switzerland County lost to Madison 71-64.  The Cubs came back from a 14-point deficit in the second quarter.

Craig poured in 29 points for the Pacers.  Ben Hicks and Bryce Wrightsman both scored nine.  The two also combined for nine rebounds and seven assists.

Kaden Oliver had 29 points and seven rebounds for the Cubs.  Teammate Henry Grote posted 13 points, six boards and four assists.  Jackson Lynch added 11 points.

Switzerland County had a quick turnaround to play Silver Creek in the seventh place game.  The Dragons won 96-46.  Canann Johnson led Switz with 11 points. Wrightsman followed with 10.

Brandon Northern and Zac Stricker recorded 22 points each to headline the Silver Creek scoring. Walker Hoffman and Cameron Wheeler were both in double figures as well with 17 and 13 points respectively.

The final local game of interest had Southwestern falling 85-63 in the third place game to Warren Central (KY).

Indianapolis Tech defeated Jay County 59-35 to take the championship.
