1A-60…Oldenburg 56, Southwestern Shelby 46

Oldenburg defeated host and defending 1A-60 champion Spartans of Southwestern Shelby 56-46.

The Twisters jumped out to a 20-3 lead at the first stop thanks in part to Nick Folop’s seven points which included a pair of trifectas.  It was 27-8 at the half.

The Spartans made up ground in the second half cutting the deficit to 13 after three, 39-23, but OA still managed to win by 10.

Folop scored seven more in the third and Frank Moorman had six in the final stanza.  Collectively in the fourth, the Twisters made 9-of-10 free throws.

Folop finished with 18 points, Moorman had 10, both Nathan Schuman and Abe Streator scored nine while CJ Grote added eight.

Southwestern’s Aiden Hartsell tried to singlehandedly bring back the Spartans as he scored 25 of his 30 points in the second half.  Hartsell dropped seven bombs from deep.  Teammate Jordan Jones added 12, all coming on four long balls.

1A-60…Hauser 56, Morristown 45

In Wednesday’s other first-round game from the Spartan gym, Hauser beat Morristown 56-45.

The Jets led 11-7 after quarter one and 29-16 at the half.  The Yellow Jackets rallied to take a brief lead in the third quarter, but Hauser held a one-point edge at the stop, 33-32.

The Jets went on to win by 11 despite a game-high 32 points from Nolan Laster of the Yellow Jackets.  Laster also unofficially had 10 rebounds.
