Wayne Frank Schutte passed away on Saturday September 19 in the comfort of his family. Wayne was born on July 7, 1946 in Batesville, IN. Wayne grew up in a loving home outside of Sunman. He was a Graduate of Sunman High School Class of 1965.
Upon finishing high school Wayne continued his schooling and also began to work in the lab for Eli Lilly. In 1966 however his life would forever change, he would meet his future wife Susan Prickel. Wayne and Susan were married on May 20, 1967 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenfield, IN. They continued to live in Greenfield, before starting their family and returning to the Batesville, IN. They then moved to Napoleon to raise their family.
With the move back to southern Indiana, Wayne also began a new career as a truck driver. He spent several years driving for Wuestefeld Trucking in New Point before hiring on and driving for 26 years for Batesville Casket. He retired from Batesville in 2011, winning numerous awards for his safe driving.
Wayne enjoyed playing softball and was always up for a round of golf. When he was home, he enjoyed cooking and it was noted the food was good and the mess even greater. He enjoyed singing and playing various instruments. He sang at several of the kids weddings, and was known for “O Holy Night” at the holidays. He was known for his strong will and determination, Sue gave him his nickname “Bullhead”, not only did it stick around the house but became his CB handle on the road.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1461 in Batesville. He loved being a trucker buddy to the 3rd class in Batesville, sending post cards from across the country and visiting them with his truck at school.
Wayne will be missed by wife Susan, daughters; Monica (Dale) Siefker of Bloomington, Cynthia (Jeff) Weisenbach of Batesville, Dana (John) Newhart of Osgood, Sarah (Lance) Smith of Venice, Florida, Amanda Schutte of Napoleon, and Erin (Matt) Schuerman of Osgood, son Mike (Tracey) Schutte of Cornelius, North Carolina, along with 20 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Helen (Schutte) Wettering and 1 grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Monday September 21 from 4-7 pm. At Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Rosary services will be held on Monday at 3:30, also at Neal’s. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday September 22 at 10 am. At St Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon, with doors opening at 9 am.
