(Greensburg, IN) – A warming shelter is now open in Greensburg to provide a safe place to stay during the current stretch of cold weather, according to Washington Township Trustee Beverly Rivera.
The shelter is located at the Decatur County Health Department, 315 S. Ireland Street, in Greensburg. Those seeking shelter are asked to enter from the rear of the building at Door 14.
Rivera said the shelter is open immediately and will remain available through January 29, with the possibility of additional days if weather conditions require an extension.
“Anyone is welcome who needs a safe, warm place to stay,” Rivera said.
In addition to guests, volunteers are also needed to help staff the shelter. Rivera said volunteers can sign up for four-hour shifts by calling her directly at 812-570-8005.
Local officials continue to encourage residents to look out for neighbors, especially the elderly and those without reliable heat, as cold temperatures persist across Decatur County.
