
(Ripley/Jennings Counties, IN) – A Jennings County man was arrested on Wednesday following a two-county pursuit that began in Osgood.
Ripley County Sheriff Rob Bradley says Deputy Dustin Bowling responded to 344 N. Buckeye Street on a report of a suspicious person.
While in the Osgood area, Bowling spotted a car heading west on Railroad Street at a high rate of speed.
The deputy caught up with the vehicle and clocked it at 70 mph in a 40-mph zone.
The driver, later identified as 29-year-old David Hankins of Butlerville, initiated the vehicle pursuit.
Investigators say Hankins reached speeds of up to 85 mph.
Bowling was informed that Hankins had two active felony warrants in Ripley County.
The chase continued through the backroads of western Ripley County before Hankins lost control of the car in Jennings County before he fled on foot.
He was found a short time later, hiding in a creek.
Hankins was arrested and taken to the Ripley County Jail, where he was booked on preliminary charges that include:
- Warrant for Residential Entry (Level 6 felony)
- Warrant for Impersonation of a Public Servant (Level 6 felony)
- Resisting Law Enforcement with a Motor Vehicle (Level 6 felony)
- Invasion of Privacy (Class A misdemeanor)
- Possession of Marijuana (Class B misdemeanor)
- Reckless Driving (Class C misdemeanor)
- Operating While Intoxicated (Class C misdemeanor)
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office, Ripley County Communications, and Jennings County Dispatch.
