UNION COUNTY – Residents in Union County are no longer able to receive emergency weather alerts from CodeRed, but new options are available.
County commissioners decided to discontinue the service in light of notification accuracy and lack of demand, according to the Liberty Herald.
Residents are now encouraged to sign up for Nixle, a free notification service used by government and law enforcement agencies to relay severe weather and public safety information.
The newspaper reports that Union County EMA Director Jim Franklin, estimates 2,000 residents have signed up for Nixle, which delivers text messages to cell phones and email.
