U.S. 50 work in Dearborn County set to begin this week

Aurora, In. — Officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation say the “white-topping” contract work on U.S. Highway 50 from State Road 101 west of Dillsboro to just west of Aurora will begin next week, weather permitting.

The first task for work crews will be constructing temporary crossovers in order to maintain traffic during the project.

Crown Point, Indiana-based Walsh Construction has the $16,790,126 to complete a concrete-over-asphalt resurfacing project’ Crews will also place cross-median asphalt lanes on U.S. 50 at either end of the project limits.

The contract calls for asphalt and concrete patching, construction of new driveway and road/street approaches—and a 4½-inch concrete overlay atop the existing asphalt base.

The 4.56 mile section of U.S. 50 to be white-topped begins 1.85 miles east of S.R. 262 and ends 2.44 miles west of S.R. 350.  Motorists will experience single-lane traffic in both directions on the north side of the roadway beginning in April.

The project has a completion date of November 15.

Daily traffic count is 13,490 vehicles per day.
