Two seriously injured in separate crashes Sunday in Ripley County

Ripley County, IN — The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a pair of crashes on Sunday that involved serious injuries.

A UTV driven by 29-year-old Justin Paul of Oldenburg missed a curve and went into a yard on County Road 200 West, near County Road 1050 North yesterday morning around 1 o’clock. The UTV began to roll shortly after leaving the road and Paul was ejected. Paul hit a garage door, which broke, and then landed in the garage. He was treated at the scene and flown by Indiana University’s Lifeline Helicopter to the University of Cincinnati Trauma Center. Napoleon Fire Department, Batesville Emergency Medical Services, and TDS Wrecker Service also responded to the crash.

Just before 10:30 last night, a Versailles man was seriously hurt in a one-vehicle crash on Farmers Retreat Road at the corner of County Road 450 South. Investigators say 36-year-old Jamie Barrett was driving a pickup truck when he missed a curve and struck a tree head-on. Barrett was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut out of the wreckage. He was treated at the scene, then taken by StatFlight Helicopter to the UC Trauma Center. Besides the Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Friendship Fire Department, Ripley County Emergency Services, and Affordable Todd Wrecker Service also responded to the crash.
