Two SE Indiana police officers recognized for OWI arrests in 2020

Greensburg Assistant Police Chief Brandon Meyer was recognized as a Traffic Safety All-Star by Gov. Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute for his efforts to combat impaired driving.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Two Southeastern Indiana police officers were among 65 from around the state to receive the Traffic Safety All-Star Award for their work to curb impaired driving.

Brandon Meyer – who is now the Greensburg Assistant Police Chief – was recognized for making 52 drunk driving arrests in 2020 when he patrolled the city’s streets as a Sergeant.

Officer Austin Boggs with the Greendale Police Department in Dearborn County made 44 arrests last year.

The officers were recognized by Gov. Eric Holcomb and Indiana Criminal Justice Institute Executive Director Devin McDonald during a ceremony at Victory Field in Indianapolis.

To qualify for the award, an officer must have made at least 20 OWI arrests and participated in one of the state’s targeted enforcement campaigns during the previous year. In total, the officers who were recognized made 3,163 OWI arrests across Indiana in 2020.

“I couldn’t be more grateful for the work these officers are doing to keep our roads and communities safe,” Gov. Holcomb said. “They’ve demonstrated their commitment day-in and day-out to curb impaired driving, and people are alive today because of their efforts. I want to congratulate these officers on their well-deserved, hard-earned achievement.”

The recipients were nominated by their departments as some of the top officers for OWI enforcement.

In addition to their normal patrols, the officers often worked overtime picking up extra shifts during state and national enforcement periods.
