Two Ripley County Men Killed in Crash

(Ripley County, IN) – Two Ripley County men were killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 421 just north of Versailles Tuesday afternoon.

Indiana State Police say multiple first responders were called before 3 p.m. to a crash involving a dump truck and a semi.

Troopers say a 2001 Ford F-450 dump truck driven by 24-year-old Nathan Vogelsang of Dillsboro was southbound on 421 near County Road 100 North when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the center line and into the path of a northbound semi pulling a Mack box trailer.

The vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lane.

Vogelsang and his passenger, 19-year-old Landon J. W. Comer of Osgood, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi driver, 34-year-old Oleh Hrudnenko of Buffalo, Illinois, suffered minor injuries in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Toxicology results are pending but ISP says there are no indications that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

U.S. 421 was closed for approximately five hours for the crash investigation and cleanup, with investigators staying on the scene late into the evening.

ISP investigators were assisted by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office; the Versailles and Osgood police departments, Ripley County EMS, Versailles Fire Rescue, Ripley County Emergency Management, the Ripley County Coroner’s Office, and Affordable Todd’s Wrecker Service.
