(Franklin County, IN) – Two men died in a single-vehicle crash that happened on the 27-thousand block of West Chapel Road in Franklin County Saturday evening.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says deputies determined that a westbound car crested a hill at a high rate of speed, became airborne and struck a utility pole, a tree and a residence at 27212 West Chapel Road around 6:44 p.m.
Both of the occupants of the car were pronounced dead at the scene.
They were identified as 49-year-old Robert William Leo Dunham of Oldenburg, who was the driver, and his passenger, 51-year-old Jesse E. Brummett, Jr. of Sunman.
Investigators say alcoholic beverages were found at the scene, and toxicology results are pending.
Based on evidence and witness statements, excessive speed appears to have been a primary factor in the crash, according to deputies.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Franklin County Coroner Brian Baxter, Letts EMS and the Clarksburg Fire Department.
