Oldenburg Academy lost to Providence 1-0 on Saturday.
Saturday afternoon in the graveyard it was “Senior Day” against top 20 Providence High School. This is probably the first time four top 20 teams took the field in the graveyard. We acknowledged five seniors on their day and they are Sarah Wilder, Emma Schulte, Kirsten Ricke, Olivia Lewis, and Ella Lamping.
Providence came out quick and scored within the first minute of the game. But sophomore, Elizabeth Schulte placed a perfect ball to senior Sarah Wilder, who scored her 8th goal of the season. Right before the first half ended Providence was able to get behind our defense and score. The second half was a very even match. This was a great team and one that will truly get us ready for the post season. OA ended the game with 27 shots and 13 on goal, Providence ended with 16 shots and 9 on goal. Regan Weberding ended the day with 9 saves.
OA will be taking on Rising Sun on Tuesday 9-23 and Union County 9-25. OA falls to 9-3 on the year.
The Pioneers were last year’s Class 1A State Runner-ups.
