The 8th Grade Sunman-Dearborn Trojans won the SEI tourney Thursday night by defeating Batesville 52-43. It was the cap on quite an incredible week for the Trojan team.
In the first round they were matched up with the South Ripley Raiders. Down 12 points late in the third quarter, the Trojans mounted a furious comeback fueled by the home crowd to pull off the 42-37 win.
In the second round they faced the defending SEI Champion Saint Louis Cardinals. After a back and forth battle in the first quarter, the Trojans took the lead in the middle of the second quarter, never losing the lead the rest of the way for a final score of 38-35.
Finally, in the championship the Trojans led from start to finish and held on for the 52-43 win.
For the week the Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Collinsworth, who for the week averaged 24 points per game. They were also led by Josh Stroud at 8 points per game, AJ Messmore at 7 points per game, and timely scoring and defense provided by point guard Luke Hornbach and Logan Rohrbacher. Aidan Knecht, Brady Spangler, Sam Kirchgassner, Luke Storie, JJ Stenger, and Landen Weis all contributed in the championship game and great season.
“I can not say enough how proud of this team I am. To do what they did this week in beating the quality of teams they did is incredible. They had the toughest road possible and persevered. It would have been easy to pack it in down 12 against South Ripley, but they never gave up. This group has improved so much in the past year and I am proud to say I was able to be a part of that. I can’t wait to see what they can accomplish in the next four years.” Trojans Coach Thomas Meyer.
The 8th grade Bulldogs lost last night to Sunman Dearborn 52-43.

The Bulldogs finished their season with a 14-6 record. Great job Bulldogs!
