(Decatur County, IN) – Three schools in Decatur County have earned STEM certification from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).
Greensburg Elementary (GES), North Decatur Jr./Sr. High and South Decatur Elementary successfully navigated the rigorous application and review process to earn the designation.
Certified schools exemplify an innovative approach to education and project-based learning, and before receiving the designation, are required to demonstrate a commitment to providing high-quality STEM curriculum and experiences that clearly prepare students for careers in emerging technology-based fields.
“I am extremely proud of the dedication and hard work demonstrated by both our staff and students in achieving STEM certification,” GES Intermediate Principal Mary Beth Meyer said. “Their efforts and commitment have truly elevated our school’s academic excellence.”
“Being designated as a STEM Certified School is a monumental accomplishment for us,” GES Educational Technology Integrationist Megan Moore said. “Our teachers and staff, with the support of administration, have worked tirelessly to prioritize STEM instruction for many years. Students are solving real-world problems, using critical thinking and creativity skills, and constantly growing their knowledge of the ever-evolving STEM field. We know that STEM is the future; it’s what is best for our students.”
“STEM-related curriculum has always been a high priority at Greensburg Schools,” Superintendent Tom Hunter said. “This recognition for our elementary school and staff is a clear benchmark demonstrating the exceptional level of instruction we are proud to provide our students each day.”
South Ripley Junior High was also recently STEM-certified by IDOE.
