Washington D.C. — On this day 17-years ago four coordinated attacks conducted by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda changed the United States forever and resulted in the longest war in our history. Nearly 3,000 people were killed that day and more than $10 billion in infrastructure was destroyed.
Since military operations have been conducted in 76 countries, more than 6,500 service members have been lost and the cost has been estimated at $5.6 trillion.
President Trump and his wife, Melania will attend a ceremony in a Shanksville, Pennsylvania field where Flight 93 crashed killing all aboard. Analysts have speculated the 40 passengers and crew members attempted to regain control of the airplane before the crash. It is thought the aircraft was bound for the White House or the U.S. Capitol.
Governor Eric Holcomb has directed all flags to be flown at half-staff in remembrance today.
