VERSAILLES, IN — Testimony continues in Ripley Circuit Court in the double-murder trial of Niklas Kedrowitz.
The 17-year-old is accused of killing two younger siblings at a home on Maple Street in Osgood back in 2017. Two-year-old Desiree McCartney and 11-month-old Nathaniel Ritz were smothered 80 days apart, allegedly at the hands of their older brother.
The jury trial began Monday with opening statements from both the prosecution and the defense.
Jurors heard testimony from the State’s first witnesses. The defense is expected to start calling witnesses to the stand this week.
If convicted, Kedrowitz could be sentenced to 55 years in prison on each murder count. He is not eligible for the death penalty because of his age.
