Vevay, In. — Switzerland County football player Colton Shirmer continues his recovery after a game injury suffered on October 6 in Decatur County.
During the first quarter of the game against North Decatur Schirmer was blocking on a kickoff return when he was hit causing a serious neck injury. The freshman football player was flown to Riley Children’s Hospital for immediate surgery after his fourth and fifth vertebrae were fractured as a result of the contact.
Officials say Schirmer was conscious but could not feel anything below his neck when he was removed from the field.
After spending 10 days in intensive care he now undergoes daily physical therapy and is improving.
