Sunman man dies in Dearborn County ORV accident on Fourth of July

(Sunman, IN) – A 63-year-old Sunman man is dead following an off-road vehicle accident in Dearborn County on the Fourth of July.

Indiana Conservation Officers say responders were dispatched shortly after 8 pm Tuesday to the 10,800 block of North Dearborn Road.

The initial investigation indicates Thomas Klump was operating a side-by-side ORV when he overcorrected, which caused the machine to roll over.

Klump was ejected and was pinned under the vehicle.

On-scene life-saving efforts were attempted, but Klump was later pronounced dead.

Conservation officers say seat belts, helmets, and safety equipment were not being used at the time of the accident, which remains under investigation.

The cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy.

Assisting agencies included the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office, the Sunman Police Department, and Sunman EMS.
