Sunman-Dearborn Schools selected by IDOE for Literacy Cadre

St. Leon, IN — The Sunman-Dearborn Community School Corporation has been selected for the 2023 Literacy Cadre by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).

IDOE has partnered with the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis to deploy and oversee instructional coaches to provide guidance, support, professional development, and coaching in instructional practices aligned with the Science of Reading.

The partnership between Sunman-Dearborn, IDOE, and CELL includes more than $250,000 in grant money to be used to hire Literacy Coaches at each of the corporation’s elementary schools.

The Science of Reading is a body of scientifically-based research and best practices about reading and issues related to reading and writing and incorporates phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
