Student art on display at Dearborn County Courthouse

Nicholas Dimeglio

Lawrenceburg, IN — Dearborn County Prosecutor, Lynn Deddens, recently recognized five East Central High School students for their artwork, which was chosen to decorate the

Dearborn County Courthouse expansion. The students participated in an art contest conceived and implemented by Deddens to help beautify the Courthouse.

The theme was Dearborn County: Historic, Current, or Patriotic. Students were encouraged to create art depicting historic Dearborn County, a rendering of something current in Dearborn County, or a patriotic drawing of Dearborn County.

With the occurrence of COVID-19 and the untimely closing of schools this spring, students from East Central were the only ones who submitted entries. The five winners are Nicolas DiMeglio, Kamiryn Knigga, Jenna Schuman, Evan Stutz, and Bradin Withers. The winning selections will now be displayed in the hallway that joins the existing courthouse to the expansion, and the public is welcome to stop by to view the pieces. The students whose art was selected met with Prosecutor Deddens, were given a color copy of their artwork, and received $50.00 each in prize money. This prize money came from forfeiture funds and no taxpayer dollars were used.
