INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana Governor Mike Pence received recommendations for new legislative framework for energy efficiency from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) on Thursday.
The agency estimates Indiana will need to add approximately 5,000 megawatts of generation in order to meet forecasted demand.
Energy efficiency can play a critical role in ensuring public utilities provide electricity to Hoosiers at the lowest possible cost.
The recommendation also looks to lower the demand for electricity, decreasing the need to build new generation facilities and avoiding the costs associated with those new facilities.
In March 2014, the governor sent a letter to the IURC asking them to complete a set of recommendations that can inform the development of a new legislative framework for energy efficiency in Indiana.
Pence said, “I thank the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission for their careful deliberation and thoughtful consideration evidenced by the recommendations I received, and I look forward to working with the General Assembly to establish a renewed direction for energy efficiency in Indiana.”
