(Indiana) – Two flu-related deaths were recently recorded in Indiana, which has moved the state to Indiana Department of Health’s “high” category for flu virus spread.

The number of flu-related deaths in Indiana in the current flu season has jumped to 14.

This is the first time this season that the state has recorded high flu activity.

According to the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH), common symptoms of the flu include:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Muscle aches
  • Diarrhea and nausea occasionally in children

The flu season typically lasts from October to May, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

To prevent the spread of the flu virus, the IDOH encourages Indiana residents to wash their hands, avoid sick individuals, and cover their mouths when sneezing and coughing.
