In Week 3 high school football action last night on the Sports Voice, Lawrence North rolled over East Central 32-7, and Brady Wonnell’s 29 yard field goal in the waning seconds lifted Batesville over South Dearborn 17-14…Elsewhere, North Decatur squeaked past Milan 21-20; Franklin County bounced Rushville 41-6; South Decatur crushed Edinburgh 35-6; Connersville upended Greensburg 28-14, and Lawrenceburg ripped Speedway 42-0.

The New York Mets held off the Reds 5-4 in the series opener last night at Great American Ball Park. With the loss, the Reds fall six games behind the Mets in the NL Wild Card race, and the San Francisco Giants have moved ahead of Cincinnati in the playoff chase standings. The middle game of the series is tonight. Brady Singer gets the start for the Reds. Fellow righthander Jonah Tong goes for the Mets. Coverage on 103.9 FM begins at 6:10 p.m. Before the game, a statue honoring Reds Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman will be unveiled outside the ball park. Brennaman was behind the radio mic for the ball club from 1974 until his retirement in 2019.

The Reds activated catcher Tyler Stephenson from the injured list on Friday. Catcher Will Banfield was optioned to Triple-A Louisville.

The Indiana Fever hammered the Chicago Sky 97-77 in downtown Indy last night. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 20 points. Indiana improves to 22-20 and will visit the Washington Mystics tomorrow afternoon.

In the NFL, the Los Angeles Chargers held off the reigning AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs 27-21 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns.

The Cincinnati Bengals open the regular season on the road tomorrow against the Cleveland Browns, while the Indianapolis Colts are home against the Miami Dolphins. Kickoff for both games is 1 p.m.

In college football on this Saturday, Indiana hosts Kennesaw State; Purdue entertains Southern Illinois; Ball State is at Auburn, and UC is home against Bowling Green. Notre Dame is off this weekend and will play Texas A & M in the home opener next Saturday.
