Greensburg topped Oldenburg Academy 2-1 in boys’ varsity soccer last evening at the Graveyard in a match heard on WRBI. Both of the Pirates goals were scored by Jacoby Miller. Connor Holder netted the Twisters’ lone goal.
The Batesville girls dominated the Ripley County Cross Country meet last night, placing all seven runners in the Top 10. All of them qualified for All County honors. Kaylyn Bedel claimed the individual county champion trophy with a time of 21:32. The Bulldogs came away with the team title at 15 points. South Ripley edged Jac-Cen-Del for second place, 62-63. Batesville had the low score of 23 to win the boys title. Milan was 2nd at 42 followed by South Ripley with 70. The Indians’ Gabe Riehle outran the Bulldogs’ Jake Chapman to take the individual crown at 16:47.
In middle school cross country, the Batesville girls won a four-way meet at Rising Sun with a score of 16. The host Shiners had 42, while Milan and Jac-Cen-Del did not field complete teams. The Bulldogs Ava Wade was the meet champ. Batesville’s Cael Luhman was the boys meet champ. The Bulldogs finished first with a score of 23 followed by Rising Sun at 31. Again, Milan and JCD did not have complete teams.
In girls golf, Southwestern (Hanover) topped South Ripley 241-248. The Raiders Lilly Jones and Kali Comer tied for second. Both shot a 57.
Batesville’s 7th grade volleyball team beat Jac-Cen-Del in two sets. The Eagles took the 8th grade match in three sets.
It’s Week 3 of the high school football season. East Central hits the road tonight take on Cincinnati Moeller at Mount Saint Joseph University. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 103.9 FM and the WRBI app. Matt Scheidler and Brad Fentress will have the call.

The Reds completed a three-game series sweep of Houston by downing the Astros 1-0 yesterday at Great American Ball Park in a game heard on WRBI. The lone run came off the bat of Ty France, who clubbed a solo homer in the bottom of the 7th. Cincinnati begins a three-city, nine-game road trip tonight when they open a series in Queens against the New York Mets.
The NFL season kicked off last night in Kansas City, where the Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens 27-20.
Opening weekend of the NFL continues tonight when the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles play in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It will be the first NFL game to be played in South America.
