Batesville won the Greensburg girls’ golf IHSAA sectional on Saturday. The Bulldogs shot a 313 as a team, followed by second place East Central at 357 and the host Pirates in third at 399. The Trojans’ Rowan Pies took medalist honors by shooting a one-under-par 69. Ava South carded a 71 to lead the Bulldogs. Batesville, East Central and Greensburg advance to next weekend’s regional, along with Franklin County’s Annie Hoff and Audrey Mears, who will take part as individual golfers.
Oldenburg Academy boys’ soccer fell 3-1 to Indianapolis North Central on Saturday at the Graveyard. The Twisters avoided the shut out on Hayden Blair’s goal with just under three minutes to play in the match. Isaiah Waggoner recorded eight saves for OA. The Twisters fall to 7-4-1 on the season.
The Reds fired manager David Bell last night. Bell received a contract extension last year, but the team has had a disappointing season and missed the playoffs. Cincinnati has a 76-81 record entering the final week of the season. Bell posted a 405-456 record over the past six seasons. Bench coach Freddie Benevides will serve as interim manager.
On the field yesterday, the Pittsburgh Pirates shut out the Reds 2-0 in Cincinnati’s final home game of the 2024 season. The Reds have an off day before starting the final road trip of the year with the first of two in Cleveland tomorrow night.
The Colts held off the Chicago Bears 21-16 yesterday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Indianapolis wins for the first time this year and improves to 1-2.
The Bengals host Washington tonight on Monday Night Football. Kick off is at 8:15. At halftime of tonight’s game, the Bengals will induct Tim Krumrie and Corey Dillon into the team’s Ring of Honor.
In the first round of the WNBA playoffs, the Connecticut Sun topped the Indiana Fever 93-69. The Fever trail in the series one game to none. Game two of the series will be played Wednesday night. Earlier in the day on Sunday, Indiana Guard Caitlin Clark was named the unanimous Associated Press WNBA Rookie of the Year.
