Batesville girls golf topped East Central 147-199 last evening at Hillcrest. Bulldog freshman Stella Maple earned medalist honors with a three under par 32.

North Decatur girls golf shot a season-low 200 in their match with Edinburgh at North Branch. The Chargers Mary Stier was the medalist with a 47.

South Decatur volleyball grounded Hauser in four sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-21, 25-23). The Cougars won the first, third and fourth sets, while the Jets took the second set.

Batesville Middle School volleyball swept South Dearborn. It was the Bulldog 7th graders over the Knights 25-23, 25-23. The BMS 8th grade team improved to 12-0 on the year with a 25-22, 25-13 win.

North Decatur Junior High volleyball took two from Greensburg. The Chargers 7th grade team won in two sets (25-23, 25-13) while the North Decatur 8th graders outlasted the Pirates in three sets (25-17, 25-22, 15-12).

Elsewhere around the area, it’s a battle of unbeaten teams in Vevay when Class 1A #1 North Decatur takes on Switzerland County. Both teams are 4-0; Franklin County is at Lawrenceburg; Greensburg entertains South Dearborn; Milan journeys to Edinburgh; South Decatur makes the trek to Brown County; and Connersville heads to Rushville.

The Reds blanked the Chicago Cubs 1-0 at Great American Ball Park in the series opener as heard last night on WRBI. Hunter Greene tossed a complete game one-hitter. It’s Greene’s first nine-inning shut out complete game of his career. Greene took a no-hitter into the 7th inning before a two-out Seiya Suzuki double broke up the no-hit bid. Greene struck out nine and did not walk a batter. Will Benson’s RBI double in the 4th scored Austin Hays with what turned out to the game’s only run. Cincinnati remains two games behind the Mets for the final National League Wild Card spot after New York beat San Diego 6-1 last night. Game two of the series is tonight. Lefthander Nick Lodolo gets the start for the Reds.

The 6th seeded Indiana Fever upset the 3-seed Atlanta Dream 87-85 in the decisive third game of their WNBA Playoff series. The Fever scored the final seven points of the game to pull off the upset and win their first playoff series in 10 years. Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 24 points. Indiana opens semifinal round play on Sunday in Las Vegas against the Aces.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is scheduled to undergo surgery today in Alabama to repair a grade 3 turf toe injury he suffered last Sunday against Jacksonville. Borrow is facing a three-month recovery period.
