Congratulations to area boys and girls cross country runners who qualified for the IHSAA State Championship meet at Terre Haute this weekend. Batesville freshman Ava Wade, East Central senior Callie Bentley, plus freshman Eleanor Davis and senior Joe Hawkins from Greensburg advanced following their showings at the Shelbyville and Evansville regionals on Saturday. Wade set a new school record time of 18:19 when she finished 5th overall at Shelbyville. Bentley came in 9th with a time of 18:72. Davis was 10th in the girls race at Evansville with a time of 18:42. Hawkins’ 15:48 time was good for a 17th place individual finish in the boys race.

The Minnesota Timberwolves got past the Indiana Pacers 114-110 in NBA action heard last night on WRBI. Paskal Siakam led the visiting Pacers with 38 points, 10 rebounds and eight assits. With the loss, Indiana falls to 0-3 on the year. The Blue and Gold will be back in action Wednesday night at Dallas.
The New York Jets rallied to knock off the Bengals 39-38 in NFL action in downtown Cincinnati yesterday afternoon. Running back Breece Hall’s halfback option to rookie tight end Mason Taylor with 1:54 remaining in the game propelled the Jets to the victory. Hall also ran for two touchdowns. The previously winless Jets scored 23 points in the 4th quarter to improve to 1-7 and give Aaron Glenn his first win as a head coach. New York racked up 503 yards total offense. At halftime of yesterday’s game, the Bengals inducted ’70s cornerback and return specialist “Leapin'” Lamar Parrish and former offensive lineman and longtime radio analyst Dave Lapham into the team’s Ring of Honor.
