St. Louis and Laurel split in boys 5th and 6th grade basketball last night. It was St. Louis winning the 5th grade game 31-1, while Laurel took the 6th grade contest 40-21.

Greensburg sits atop the Class 3A Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association preseason basketball poll, and Jac-Cen-Del is #5 in the 1A rankings. The two teams meet on the Pirates’ home planks Friday night.

The Bengals acquired running back Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears before Tuesday’s trade deadline, in exchange for Cincinnati’s seventh-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft. The team placed halfback Zack Moss on the injured reserve list with a neck injury. Rookie tight end Erick All Jr., who suffered a knee injury Sunday vs. Las Vegas, was also placed on I-R.

The Colts have placed center Ryan Kelly on injured reserve with a calf injury and claimed former Arizona Cardinals safety Darren Hall off waivers.

In college football last night, Miami University got past Ball State 27-21 in Muncie.

Indiana is ranked eighth and Notre Dame is #10 in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the year.
