The Franklin County Wildcats topped Jennings County 3-1 to claim the Class 3A Sectional 29 softball championship at Batesville High School in a game heard last evening on the Sports Voice. The game was tied at 1-1 in the 4th inning when Addyson Bischoff and Emily Fellure clubbed back to back solo home runs. Jillian Harris tossed a complete game for the Cats, who will host either Corydon Central or Charlestown in the 3A regional next Tuesday night.

Milan takes the Class 1A Sectional 60 title at Rising Sun after knocking off Hauser 7-2. The Indians will visit the winner of tonight’s Sectional 59 title game between South Decatur and Tri in the 1A regional next week.

In Class 2A baseball sectional action last night, host Switzerland County blanked South Ripley 1-0. The Raiders end the season at 8-9.

Coming up tonight, East Central goes up against Whiteland in the Class 4A Sectional 14 semifinal at Columbus East. First pitch is at 8:00.

Batesville track and field athletes Ayden Eckstein and Jake Chapman qualified for next weekend’s state finals following last night’s regional meet at Lawrence Central. Eckstein won the high jump championship with a season best leap of 6 feet 9 inches. Chapman qualified by placing third in the 800 meter run with a personal best time of 1:54.62.

The New York Knicks stayed alive by beating the Pacers 111-94 in Game Five of the Eastern Conference finals at Madison Square Garden in a game heard last night on WRBI. Indiana leads the best of seven series three games to two. The series moves back to Indianapolis for Game Six tomorrow night. WRBI coverage tips off at 7:30.

The Reds open a three game weekend series this afternoon against the Central Division leading Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Andrew Abbott gets the start for Cincinnati. Coverage begins at 1:50 on 103.9 FM.

The Reds traded former All-Star closer Alexis Diaz to the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday in exchange for righthanded pitcher Mike Villani. Diaz appeared in six games for Cincinnati this season before he was demoted to Triple-A Louisville. He allowed eight runs, walked five and struck out three. Diaz, who was an All-Star in 2023, finishes his Reds career with 75 saves over four seasons. Villani was a 13th round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Long Beach State, and debuted with the Dodgers rookie level affiliate this year.
