Batesville doubled up Jennings County 6-3 in varsity baseball on Friday. Dylan Dudley clubbed a two-run homer in the bottom of the 6th. He drove in a total of three runs on the day. The Bulldogs improve to 13-4.
South Ripley hammered South Decatur 23-6 on Friday. The Raiders put the game away when they scored eight runs in the top of the third, and added 11 more in the fifth inning.
The Batesville and Seymour JV teams played to a 3-3 tie in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday. In game two, it was the Bulldogs over the Owls 7-3.
In junior high baseball on Saturday evening, North Decatur bested Greensburg 5-3. Charger pitcher Russ Gorrell struck out 12 Pirates…Earlier in the day, North Decatur rallied to beat South Decatur 8-6.
Batesville hosted and won its 76th annual boys varsity golf invitational on Saturday at Hillcrest. The Bulldogs as a team carded a 323. Among other local teams, East Central came in fifth with a 355, Greensburg was sixth at 358, Franklin County was eighth with a 359, North Decatur came in 11th place at 400, and Oldenburg followed in 12th place with a 402.
In girls tennis, Batesville suffered a 3-2 loss at Connersville. The Bulldogs were winners at both doubles positions. The Batesville junior varsity was 4-1 winner over Connersville.
The Pacers beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-109 in Game Four of the Eastern Conference semifinals in downtown Indianapolis as heard last night on the Sports Voice. Paskal Siakim led Indiana with 21 points. The Pacers take a commanding three games to one lead in the best of seven series and can close it out with a win in Game Five tomorrow night in Cleveland.
The Astros shut out the Reds 3-0 yesterday in Houston in a game heard on WRBI. The Reds mustered just two hits and struck out 12 times. Houston takes two of three games in the interleague weekend series. After going 2-5 on the road trip, the Reds have today off before returning home tomorrow night for the start of a three-game interleague series against the Chicago White Sox.
The Colorado Rockies have fired manager Bud Black and bench coach Mike Redmond after the team got off to a 7-33 start to the season. Black was in his ninth season as Rockies manager. Third base coach Warren Schaeffer has been named interim manager through the end of the season, and hitting coach Clint Hurdle will serve as interim bench coach.
