Franklin County rolled over North Decatur 13-0 in JV softball last evening. The Wildcats scored seven runs in the 2nd inning.

North Decatur blanked Edinburgh 6-0 in junior high softball.

South Decatur won both the boys and girls three-way track meets with St. Louis and Jac-Cen-Del. In the boys meet, it was the Cougars 76, the Cardinals 26 and the Eagles 11. In a close girls meet, it was South Decatur 34, St. Louis 33 and JCD 32.

Congratulations are in order for several local track and field athletes who were named ORVC performers of the week. Jac-Cen-Del’s James Pardhanni and South Ripley’s Mason Bascom share boys performer of the week honors, while Alexa Yeomans from South Ripley is the girls track performer of the week. The St. Louis Cardinals swept Wednesday’s split doubleheader with the Reds at Great American Ball Park, as heard on WRBI. It was the Cardinals over the Reds 6-0 in the opener, and 9-1 in the nightcap. The Reds will try to salvage a split in the four-game series this afternoon when they send lefthander Andrew Abbott to the mound. He’ll be opposed by fellow lefty Matthew Libratore. Coverage on 103.9 FM begins following the Noon news block.

The Reds placed infielder Jeimar Candelario on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Monday with a spine strain. In a corresponding move, the team called up infielder Tyler Calihan, who went 0 for 2 in his major league debut in Game One of Wednesday’s doubleheader, and 0 for 1 with a strikeout in the nightcap.

The Bengals have exercised cornerback Dax Hill’s fifth-year option for the 2026 season. Hill will be a fourth-year player in ’25. He started the first five games of the 2024 campaign at cornerback before sustaining a season-ending injury.
