The Reds rallied to beat the San Diego Padres 3-2 yesterday at Great American Ball Park in a game heard on WRBI. Cincinnati trailed 2-1 going into the 9th inning before Spencer Steer tied the game with a single off Padres closer Robert Sanchez that scored Elly De La Cruz. After Jose Trevino singled to load the bases, Will Benson smacked a base hit to right field and drove in Gavin Lux with the game winning run. Emilio Pagan gets the win in relief. Sanchez, one of MLB’s save leaders, was tagged with the loss. The Reds won two out of three games in the series, and have now won six of the last seven series they’ve played…

Batesville High School graduate Bryan Hoeing was the winning pitcher in the Padres 6-4 win over the Reds on Saturday. Hoeing tossed an inning-and-two-thirds of one hit, scoreless baseball to notch his first win of the year. He made his 2025 debut last week after starting the season on the injured list…

The Reds embark on a two-city, six game road trip with the first of three tonight against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Chase Burns will make his second big league start for Cincinnati. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 103.9 FM.

Meanwhile, the Reds made it official and released INF Jeimer Candelario on Sunday. Candelario was reinstated from the 10-day IL on June 23 and was designated for assignment. He signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Reds in December 2023. He hit just .113 with two home runs for the Reds this season, and spent significant time on the IL.

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has been named Eastern Conference team captain for the WNBA All Star Game set to take place in Indianapolis on July 19. Clark received the most votes (1,293,526) to earn the captaincy. It’s also Clark’s second straight All-Star selection. She becomes just the fifth Fever player to be selected to multiple WNBA All-Star games.

Hall of Fame horse trainer D. Wayne Lukas died Saturday night at the age of 89. Lukas won 15 Triple Crown races, including the Kentucky Derby four times.

Indianapolis is one of five cities interested in a potential NHL expansion team, according to a report in The Daily Faceoff. Other cities interested in joining the pro hockey league are Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans, and Austin, Texas. Indy is currently home to the Fuel, which is the ECHL affiliate of the Chicago Black Hawks. The Circle City is already home to the Indy Fuel, the ECHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, which plays in the newly-constructed Fishers Event Center northeast of the city. The league has reportedly informed interested parties that the expansion fee is $2 billion. The publication says NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has not confirmed any expansion details.
