Several area schools were included in the IHSAA’s recent announcement of schools that achieved the state’s highest sportsmanship numbers. During the 2024-25 school year, the IHSAA began recognizing schools’ sportsmanship and adherence to the principles of wholesome amateur athletics in this new way. As part of the IHSAA’s Sportsmanship/Leadership program, school administrators are able to monitor their score daily on the member schools-only myIHSAA website. Those schools who have accumulated 100 points are recognized as “First Team All-Sportsmanship” and those with 95 points are recognized as “Honorable Mention All-Sportsmanship.” Locally, Batesville, East Central, Franklin County, Greensburg, Milan, South Decatur and South Ripley were named First Team All-Sportsmanship. North Decatur and Oldenburg Academy were named Honorable Mention All-Sportsmanship.
Nick Lodolo tossed a complete game shutout, as the Reds blanked the Nationals 5-0 in Washington DC in the series finale heard yesterday afternoon on WRBI. Lodolo gave up just four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out eight in going the distance. It’s Lodolo’s first career shut out. His record improves to 8-6. Noelvi Marte went 1 for 2 at the plate with a double, and an RBI. He was also hit twice by pitches. The Reds snap their three-game losing streak and remain the only major league team that hasn’t been swept in a series this year. Cincinnati finishes the first road trip out of the All-Star break at 3-3. The Reds are enjoying an off day in Cincinnati before starting a three-game interleague series over the weekend against the Tampa Bay Rays tomorrow night at Great American Ball Park.
The Bengals opened training camp yesterday in downtown Cincinnati. The team placed All-Pro defensive end Trey Hendrickson on the reserve/did not report list. The move allows the Bengals to fine Hendrickson $50-thousand each day that he is absent from camp. Hendrickson decided not to report to Bengals training camp this week. He and the team have been locked in a stalemate over a contract extension.
The Indianapolis Colts kicked off training camp yesterday at Grand Park in Westfield. The biggest story in camp this year is the quarterback competition between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
The Indiana Fever entertains the Las Vegas Aces in WNBA action tonight. Tipoff in downtown Indianapolis is at 7 p.m.
