The Reds beat the Miami Marlins 7-2 last night at Great American Ball Park in a game heard on WRBI. Lefthander Andrew Abbott pitched like an All-Star. He allowed one earned run on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings to get the win. Abbott improved to 8-1 with a 2.07 ERA in his final start before the All-Star break. Offensively, Elly De La Cruz had a pair of RBI doubles; Noelvi Marte clubbed his fourth home run of the year – a two-run shot in the 3 inning, and Will Benson wrapped up the scoring with a solo blast in the 8th. With the win, Cincinnati snaps its four game losing streak, and remains the only team in Major League Baseball that hasn’t been swept this season. The Reds try for a split when the four-game series wraps up this evening. Nick Lodolo goes for the Reds against Marlins righthander Cal Quantrill. Airtime is at 4:40 on 103.9 FM.
The Indiana Fever lost to the Golden State Valkyries Wednesday afternoon 80-61 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Fever guard Caitlin Clark returned from a groin injury after missing the last five games and scored 10 points. The Fever are now 9-10 on the year. They play Atlanta tomorrow night.
