South Decatur won the Class 1A Sectional 59 championship at Southwestern (Shelby) by downing county rival North Decatur 49-39 in a game heard Saturday night on the Sports Voice. The Cougars improve to 15-11 while the Chargers’ season ends at 17-9.

#8 Oldenburg Academy bested Shawe Memorial 51-40 at 1A Sectional 60. The 21-4 Twisters will face South Decatur in the Southwestern (Shelby) Regional Saturday afternoon at 1:00.

Class 3A #1 Greensburg won sectional 29 at Lawrenceburg by defeating Jennings County 60-50. The 24-0 Pirates take on Washington in the Charlestown Regional at 7:00 Saturday night.

East Central eliminated host Columbus North 57-50 to win Class 4A Sectional 14 . The 12-11 Trojans will face Bloomington South in the Bedford North Lawrence Regional Saturday at 7 p.m.

Brownstown Central topped host South Ripley 43-29 to claim Class 2A Sectional 45. The Raiders finish the season at 14-10.

Batesville held off Madison 60-57 in a boys basketball matinee heard Saturday on WRBI. The Bulldogs have won seven in a row and improve to 11-7.

In other boys hoops action on Saturday, it was Greensburg over Jac-Cen-Del 63-36…Oldenburg topped Milan 73-61…Franklin County beat New Castle 54-45…South Decatur knocked off Rising Sun 61-54…Switzerland County defeated North Decatur 61-55…and it was Columbus North over East Central 53-28.

Batesville senior wrestler Max Amberger won the 285 pound weight class regional title at Richmond on Saturday. Amberger also recorded his 100th pin in the process. Other area wrestlers who won weight class titles were Franklin County’s Cole Freese; Nyden Euson, Jaxsin Prater, and Brody Wingate from East Central; and Milan’s Kaleb Wilburn and Zane Richardson. East Central was the top finishing team, followed second place Milan, Franklin County in fifth place, Batesville was eighth and Greensburg came in 15h.

Batesville’s Sarah Bedel finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke and set a new school record with a time of 1:13.80 at the girls swimming and diving sectional Saturday at Columbus North. In the team standings, East Central finished second, Greensburg was sixth, Milan came in eighth, Batesville finished ninth, OA was 11th and South Ripley came in 12th place.

The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl LIX champions after rolling over the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 last night in New Orleans. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for 221 yards and two  touchdowns, and ran for 72 yards and another score and was named Super Bowl MVP.
