South Ripley bested North Decatur 60-41 in girls high school basketball heard last night on the Sports Voice. The Raiders Kaiya Rinear led all scorers with 20 points. Teammate Claire Samples added 19, and Emily Parks chipped in 10. Jo Whitaker led the Chargers with 12 points. South Ripley improves to 6-2 on the year while North Decatur falls to 3-5. The JV contest went to the host Raiders 36-13.

Other games originally scheduled for last night were casualties of yesterday morning’s snow storm. East Central at Jennings County was postponed until February 3; Eastern Hancock at Greensburg was delayed until January 6; Milan at Switzerland County was moved to tonight, and Jac-Cen-Del at South Decatur was postponed but there’s no makeup date yet.

The Indiana Pacers close out the current homestand tonight when they face the Denver Nuggets. WRBI airtime is 6:30.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen says cornerback Sauce Gardner has a calf injury. Steichen says the former UC Bearcat will miss some time, but he will not be placed on injured reserve. Gardner left Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans early after suffering the injury. The Colts face the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road this Sunday.

The Colts on Tuesday waived kicker Michael Badgley. He appeared in seven games for the Colts this season, joining the team after kicker Spencer Shrader sustained season-ending ACL and MCL injuries while kicking a PAT during Indianapolis’ Week 5 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Badgley, an eight-year NFL veteran, converted 10-of-11 field goal attempts and 18-of-21 PATs. Badgley missed his third PAT of the season in the Colts’ loss to the Texans on Sunday.

The latest College Football Playoff rankings are out. Ohio State and Indiana remain 1 and 2, respectively. The Hoosiers and Buckeyes will face each other in the Big Ten Championship Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Georgia and Texas Tech now round out the top four. Notre Dame dropped a spot to #10 despite their win over Stanford last Saturday.

In college basketball, the top-ranked Purdue Boilermakers went on the road and took down Rutgers last night 81-65 to open Big Ten play. Purdue has reached 80 points in every game this season and is beating opponents by an average of 20. Trey Kaufman-Renn had a double-double – 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Boilermakers. Purdue remains undefeated as they prepare to return home Saturday to face #10 Iowa State…

Elsewhere, Indiana State blew out Eureka 99-57; Butler beat Eastern Michigan 84-68 thanks to 29 points from Finley Bizjack; Valparaiso fell to Marquette 75-72 in overtime; And Notre Dame topped Missouri 76-71. Markus Burton putting up a double-double – 18 points and 10 rebounds.
