Edinburgh got past South Ripley 3-2 in girls softball last night. The Raiders tied the game at two a piece in the top of the 7th inning, but the Lancers scored the game winning run in the bottom half of the frame. Anna Block went 3 for 4 with 2 runs batted in, while teammate Abriah Hogg was 1 for 1 with a double and three walks. Raiders pitcher Ellie Combs hurled 6 1/3 innings with 3 hits, 1 earned run and 12 strike outs.
South Ripley’s Seve Beach will be head coach of the Indiana South all stars in this year’s Indy Star Futures Game on June 2 at Fishers High School. The girls all star game between the North and South will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys contest at 8.
The Texas Rangers blanked the Reds 1-0 at Great American Ball Park last night in a game heard on WRBI. The Rangers scored the game’s only run in the top of the first on a two-out solo homer by Wyatt Langford. Carson Spiers was impressive in defeat. He went six innings with three hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Rangers ace Nathan Eovaldi tossed a complete game. The rubber match of the series is this afternoon when Hunter Greene makes his second start of the year for the Reds; the Rangers counter with Jack Leiter. NFL owners meeting in Florida approved several rules changes Tuesday that will go into effect with the 2025 season. Among them, both teams are now guaranteed a possession in overtime during the regular season, and touchbacks will be moved to the 35 yard line. Owners did not vote on whether to ban the so-called “tush push” or “brotherly shove.”
