Special judge rules in favor of Franklin County in Riverboat payment case

Franklin County, In. — Special judge from Decatur County Superior Court, Matthew Bailey has issued a ruling that require the city of Lawrenceburg to pay Franklin County more than $3 million. The city of Lawrenceburg entered into an agreement in 2006 requiring them to pay $500,000-per-year from Riverboat funds.

Attorneys representing Franklin County say Lawrenceburg stopped making the payments in 2013. The lawsuit alleges five missed payments of $500,000 and interest in the amount of $592,333.95 for total claim of $3,092,333.95.

The court order says interest will continue to accumulate until the damages are paid.

The judgment does not include an additional payment of $500,000 due on February 2, 2019.

An appeal is expected that place a “stay” on the current judgment.
