At the end of the first half of Thursday’s girls soccer match in Versailles, Southwestern had outscored South Ripley 3-1. That proved to be the final score as neither team scored in the second half.
“Just 94 seconds into the match, Kearsty Cizek opened the scoring for us with a hard corner shot after Shelby Howard launched a ball over South Ripley’s defense on a free kick,” said Southwestern coach Nancy Totten. “Less than nine minutes into the game, Jessica Esquivel made a quick move and scored after receiving a nice pass from Cadence Humes.”
Totten reporte South Ripley’s Mariah Brison scored with 17 minutes to go in the first half, but then Lanie Anderson of the Rebels sent a nice ball to Cizek who closed out the scoring with less than a minute to go in the half.
“Brianna Johnson did a great job in goal for us,” stated Totten. “I am proud of the girls. They played great as a team, implemented many things we had been working on, and played with heart.”
We thank coach Totten for the information.
