South Ripley swings boys soccer win over Oldenburg

A four goal night by South Ripley’s Zach Gentile led the Raiders to a 4-1 boys soccer win over Oldenburg Tuesday.  Ripley’s record improved to 7-0-1.

“Zach Gentile gave us fits all night getting in behind our defense,” said Oldenburg coach Ken Getz.  “He made some great runs and puts himself in good positions to score.  He is the best legit scorer in the area I have watched so far this year.”

Coach Getz noted his team is nearly back to full strength with the exception of Luke Meyer who is still out with a broken toe.

“We came out flat in the first half,” Getz stated.  “That is on me and the coaching staff. We have to be ready.  We played much better in the second half. On offense, we did get some shots but just didn’t get enough in the net. Freshman Jacob Hilbert scored our only goal by putting himself in a good position to get a rebound shot.”

Oldenburg assistant coach Mike Wilhelm provided a scoring summary.

For Oldenburg, Jacob Hilbert scored in period 2 at 16:54 by taking a shot from a ball rolling through the 18.  The Twisters had 15 shots with 8 on goal, 3 offsides, 6 fouls, 3 corners, 1 handball and Isaiah Waggoner had 7 saves as keeper.

For South Ripley in the first half, Gentile scored at 19:27 on a misplayed ball in the 18. He scored again at 16:40 on a pass into the 18.  In the second half, Gentile scored his hat trick at 32:40 from a shot at the top of the 18.  His fourth goal came at 4:34 from a shot in the six.  The Raiders had 19 shots total (12 by Gentile) with 11 on goal, 5 offsides, 7 fouls, 6 corners and their keeper had 7 saves.

We thank coaches Getz and Wilhelm for the information.
