Baltimore, Md. — The Baltimore Orioles have named South Ripley High School graduate Brian Abel as the head athletic trainer. Ebel starts 2018 as only the fourth head trainer in the clubs history.
Ebel is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and has an MBA from Johns Hopkins and won the 2011 MLB Athletic Training Staff of the Year award. He began his career in 1985 at the age of 19 as the head athletic trainer for the Rookie-level Bluefield Orioles during college summer breaks. In 1988 he moved up to Single-A Erie and from 1989 to 1991 he was shipped to Double-A Hagerstown, then served as the minor league medical coordinator before being named the Orioles’ assistant athletic trainer in October 1996.
