Mother Nature has rewritten the schedule for girls basketball sectional action at two area sites, pushing back championship dreams by a day or more for several local teams.
Franklin County and Jac-Cen-Del, both Class 3A and Class 1A sectional hosts respectively, have postponed their opening rounds due to winter weather concerns. Games originally slated for tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 3) will now tip off Wednesday (Feb. 4), while Wednesday’s scheduled contests have been pushed to Thursday (Feb. 5).
The moves affect several area schools competing for sectional crowns and the chance to advance to regional play on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14). Here’s the updated schedule:
Franklin County Sectional (Class 3A, Sectional 29)
At Franklin County, six schools are battling for the sectional championship. The rescheduled bracket now features:
Wednesday, Feb. 4:
- Game 1 (6 p.m.): Franklin County vs. Lawrenceburg
- Game 2 (7:30 p.m.): Batesville vs. South Dearborn (WRBI broadcast)
Friday, Feb. 6:

Jac-Cen-Del Sectional (Class 1A, Sectional 60)

While weather impacted neighboring sites, the Class 1A Sectional 59 at Waldron is moving forward with its original schedule.

Championships at all sites are slated for Saturday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m.
Road to Indianapolis
Sectional winners advance to the regional round Feb. 14 at 16 sites across Indiana. Class 4A regional hosts include LaPorte, Marion, Bedford North Lawrence and Terre Haute North Vigo. Class 3A regional hosts include Jimtown, Bellmont, Greencastle and Charlestown. Class 2A regionals will be held at Winamac Community, Lapel, Boonville and Jasper, while Class 1A regionals will be held at Warsaw Community, Frankfort, Greenfield-Central and Shelbyville.
Semi-state competition is scheduled for Feb. 21, with state finals set for Feb. 28.
