(Decatur County, IN) – Smoke detectors are being credited with saving the lives of a family whose home in southern Decatur County caught fire early Sunday morning.
Firefighters from Letts and Westport were called to the home on West County Road 1280 South just before 2 a.m., and requested water and manpower assistance from Marion Township.
The family was sleeping at the time the fire ignited but was able to escape the smoke-filled house after being alerted by smoke detectors.
Fire officials say this is a prime example of why you should have working smoke detectors in your home.
There’s no word on a cause or damage estimate.
Assistance was provided by Decatur County Communications, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Decatur County EMS and Decatur County REMC.
