Smith nets third career hat trick in Greensburg win over Union County

Senior Macey Smith netted her third career hat trick at Greensburg traveled to Liberty and beat Union County 8-1 Saturday morning.

Senior Captain Macey Smith completed her third hat trick of her high school career. Her first goal was counted less than 13 minutes into the match. This was an assist from Senior Captain Natalie Kalinowski. Kalinowski and Smith would also combine for an additional goal later in the game that would complete Smith’s hat trick. Smith’s second goal was off the Patriots’ defender and her shot settled in the net. Smith would light the scoreboard a total of five times in this game. She also settled an assist from Freshman Mariss Powers along with a successful PK after being fouled in the box.

Sophomore Ella Koors would receive a pass from Senior Captain Emilee Ernstes for her first goal of the season. Koors would mark up an assist and give Kalinowski a good setup for her first goal of the game. Kalinowski’s second goal was an assist by Freshman Maddie Haviland.

The Lady Pirates’ defense shined Saturday morning against the Patriots. The starting defense consisted of Juniors Shelby Able and Malana Kramer, along with Sophomores Genevieve Smith and Ariana Hamilton, joined by Freshman Keeper Madeline Shrader. Other notable defenders for this game are Senior Sam Johnson, Junior Angella Cates, and Freshman Emma Hostetler and Tava Wenning.

Keeper Madeline Shrader had 13 saves and only allowed one goal.

The Pirates are now 3-0. They hit the road again on Thursday at Batesville. Game time is 5 pm.
