BROOKVILLE, IN — The Franklin County School Board made slight changes to the corporation’s COVID policy during a special meeting Monday evening.
The board voted 6-1 to keep masks optional and to not make major changes unless 20 percent of students at a particular building are absent due to illness and not because of a quarantine situation. If absences get to the 20 percent level, the school board will meet again to revisit the issue.
Other changes included giving school nurses authority to quarantine students with multiple exposures; field trips are canceled except for academic teams, FFA or athletics; volunteers and visitors may be limited; most case conferences will be held virtually and school assemblies will be reviewed and possibly postponed.
The meeting was called after a recent surge in cases in the school corporation. Nineteen Franklin County students tested positive for COVID-19 Monday, including 12 at the high school.
As of Monday, a total of 36 students have tested positive since school started in the 2,031-student corporation.
