SIYMCA to Host Youth Cardiac Screening

(Batesville, IN) – The Southeastern Indiana YMCA will host a Youth Cardiac Screening for kids ages 12 and up on Friday, October 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening emergency that happens when the heart stops beating. It happens in people of all ages, including kids, and comes on with no warning. It’s not a heart attack but a structural or electrical issue with the heart.

SCA can be fatal if it’s not treated immediately, but the best way to protect your child is through testing to determine their risk for it.

The Southeastern Indiana YMCA, in conjunction with Giving Hearts a Hand, is offering low-cost, $15 screenings at the Y. The screenings are sponsored by the MCORE Foundation, a nationally-recognized nonprofit dedicated to preventing SCA in youth and young adults through education, screening, and research.

Each screening lasts around 10 to 12 minutes.
