(Batesville, IN) – The Southeastern Indiana YMCA (SIYMCA),  in conjunction with Giving Hearts a Hand, is offering $15 Sudden Cardiac Arrest screenings at the Y on Thursday, October 16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening emergency in which the heart stops beating.

It happens in people of all ages, including kids, and comes on with no warning.

SCA is not a heart attack but more of a structural or electrical issue with the heart.

It can be fatal if not treated immediately, but the best way to protect your child is through testing to determine risk for SCA.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends screening children for Sudden Cardiac Arrest every two years. However, most kids have never been screened.

The screenings at SIYMCA next month are for ages 12 to 22, and are sponsored by the MCORE Foundation, a nationally-recognized nonprofit dedicated to preventing SCA in youth and young adults through education, screening, and research.

Each test lasts about 10 to 12 minutes.
