BATESVILLE, IN — Three Southeastern Indiana YMCA staff members were recognized in February with the YMCA S.O.A.R. Award (Service and Outstanding Achievement Recognition).

“These employees enhance the quality of life for the YMCA community by providing extraordinary services, activities, or other initiatives that strengthen our staff, members, and community,” said Angie Harmeyer, Southeastern Indiana YMCA Chief Executive Officer. “They have gone above and beyond routine job expectations by taking initiatives and inspiring others to work collaboratively and creatively to advance the mission of the Y.”

The staff members include:

  • Janette Jones – Membership Director, for being an incredibly valuable team leader and teammate. Janette jumped right into the senior adult programming responsibilities to help fill a gap for the senior population. She has also worked diligently to provide excellent customer service as membership rebounds through the pandemic recovery by working more hours, providing extra support, and being an all-around role model for her team.
  • Terri Roper – Group Exercise instructor and Certified Personal Trainer. A 23-year Y staff member, Terri has consistently provided excellent instruction with a caring approach to all Y members. She’s been critical in bringing back group exercise participation since the pandemic began with BodyPump, Yoga Pilates, and Power Band classes. She also recently started teaching the Parkinson’s Bootcamp class and made it her own with new challenges, new movements, and new equipment to use, so that attendees feel confident coming to the Y on their own and exercising. Her versatility and depth of knowledge with a variety of class offerings at varying fitness levels have been invaluable to the Y’s group exercise program.
  • Bill Starost – Certified Personal Trainer. “Bill gets the job done. No questions asked, and he never asks what’s in it for him,” said Wellness Director Jordan Edwards. In addition to his full-time job at Med-Mizer and his personal training schedule at the Y, Bill has helped with the Y New Year Wellness Challenge, the Turkey Trot, and he co-led the Batesville High School Football Stretching program. For his personal training clients, he has sought additional education to meet his client’s individualized goals, such as for a client wanting to advance his golfing skills. He always goes the extra mile.

“We congratulate and honor these staff members for illustrating outstanding efforts to contribute to the success of the Southeastern Indiana YMCA community through their service and achievements,” said Harmeyer.
