Singleton, Betten, DeWitt headline IBCA Players of the Week; SBSJ cited as IBCA Team of the Week

Jeffersonville senior Tre Singleton, Manchester senior Gavin Betten and Orleans junior Alex DeWitt each helped his team to a state championship, and that trio paces the honorees in the final week of the IBCA/Franciscan Health Player of the Week program for 2024-25.
Singleton, Betten, DeWitt and Indianapolis Crispus Attucks senior Dezmon Briscoe are winners for the week of March 24-29 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. Also, South Bend Saint Joseph has been cited as the IBCA/Ballogy Team of the Week in another part of this season’s IBCA recognition program.
Players of the Week are chosen by IHSAA district – Betten for District 1, Briscoe for District 2, and Singleton and DeWitt for District 3. A single team from the entire state is cited as a Team of the Week in that portion of the program. Players and teams are recognized based on all performances in a Monday through Saturday week.
Singleton scored 26 points with five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one blocked shot as Jeffersonville edged defending 4A champion, top-ranked and previously undefeated Fishers 67-66 in overtime for the Class 4A championship. The 6-8 forward converted 12-of-20 field goals and 2-of-3 free throws as the Red Devils completed their season at 24-5 and captured the program’s second state title to join an earlier crown in 1993.
Betten posted a double-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals to help Manchester to a 59-54 victory over University for the Class 2A trophy. The 6-6 forward sank 9-of-16 shots, including his lone 3-point attempt, plus 2-of-3 free throws as the Squires claimed the program’s first championship at 26-2.
DeWitt totaled 24 points and seven rebounds in propelling as Orleans topped Clinton Prairie 64-55 for the Class A prize. The 6-3 forward was 10-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the line as the Bulldogs won their first title at 25-4.
Briscoe also posted a double-double, tallying 17 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots as Crispus Attucks dropped a 56-52 decision to South Bend Saint Joseph in the Class 3A title contest. The 6-9 forward hit 6-of-12 shots and 5-of-7 free throws en route to his game-high scoring output as the Tigers completed their season at 22-7.
Singleton and DeWitt shared the District 3 award. Singleton is a third-time honoree and Betten and Briscoe are second-time winners. Singleton, a Northwestern University recruit, previously was recognized for weeks of Feb. 10-15 and March 17-22. Betten, a Grace College signee, previously was cited for the week of Nov. 25-30. Briscoe, now undecided about college after a coaching change at the University of Iowa, previously was honored for the week of March 17-22.
South Bend Saint Joseph was named Team of the Week after coach Eric Gaff’s Huskies used a balanced attack to post a 56-52 triumph over Crispus Attucks for the Class 3A title. Sophomore Elijah King and junior Nick Shrewsberry each totaled 16 points, five rebounds one assist and two steals as SBSJ claimed its first state title and finished 27-3. Senior Chase Konieczny contributed 10 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and one steal. Senior Brashaun Woods added eight points, one rebound, one assist and one steal. Junior Ethan Roseman provided six points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
This was the 17th season for the IBCA Player of the Week program and the fifth season the awards were presented by Franciscan Health Sports Medicine, an IBCA corporate partner. This was the first season for the IBCA Team of the Week program. The Team of the Week program was presented by Ballogy, another IBCA corporate partner.
Winners were chosen each week in the Player of the Week program from each of the IHSAA’s three districts, and one Team of the Week was selected from the entire state. Former Martinsville boys’ coach Kip Staggs oversaw the selection of boys’ honorees. Former Brownsburg girls’ coach Debbie Smiley oversaw the selection of girls’ honorees during their season.
Coaches must have been a current-year member for their players and/or team to be selected for a weekly award. The girls’ portion of the recognition program concluded on March 4 for 2024-25. This is the final week for the boys’ portion of the recognition program.
